The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has released the lists of Las Piñas local candidates for the coming 2013 local elections.

The Las Piñas local elections will be held in the City of Las Piñas on May 13, 2013 within the Philippine general election. Registered voters will elect for the elective local posts in the city: the mayor, vice mayor, the congressman, and the councilors, six in each of the city’s two legislative districts.

Congressman of the Lone District of Las Piňas Mark Villar is running for re-election under the ruling Nacionalista Party. Mark Villar will be challenged by two independent candidates Filipino Alvarado and Luis Casimiro.

Five candidates for mayoral position are approved to run in the May 2013 local elections including incumbent mayor Vergel Aguilar as well as four independent candidates Antonio Abellar, Jr., Kiko Antonio, Conrado Miranda, and Felix Sinajon.

Louie Bustamante (Nacionalista Party), and two independent candidates Benjamin Gonzales and Renato Santos comprise the list of candidates for vice-mayor.

The City of Las Piñas is a city in the National Capital Region of the Philippines with a population of 552,573 as of the 2010 Census. It has a total land area of 32.69 km2 (12.62 sq mi) and is composed of 20 barangays.

Las Piñas City is home to unique festivals like the “Bamboo Organ Festival”, “Waterlily Festival” and the “Parol (Lantern) Festival”.

The city is also called Home of the Bamboo Organ, City of Love and Progress, Salt Center of Metro Manila, and Lantern Capital of Metro Manila.

Tourist attractions and destinations in City of Las Piñas include Bamboo Organ, The Las Piñas Historical Corridor, Zapote Bridge, Nature Church, Salt Beds, and Sarao Jeepney Factory.
